industry Guide: Precautions for Replacing Hydraulic Cylinder Seals

The assembly method of the hydraulic cylinder greatly affects the sealing performance of the seals. Please note the following:

  1. Thoroughly remove all impurities from the inner surface of the cylinder barrel and the inside of the pipes.
  2. When using seals taken from the warehouse, seals with dust, sand, or other foreign matter attached should not be used. Otherwise, leakage may occur.
  3. Apply hydraulic oil (the same oil used in the machine itself) to the seal, gland, piston rod surface, and inner surface of the cylinder barrel before assembling the hydraulic cylinder.
  4. Add a bushing to the lip of the seal to prevent it from directly contacting the threads and stepped parts. (P1)
  5. As shown in Figure (P2), if it is necessary to allow the seal lip to pass directly through the hydraulic pressure hole, gently push the lip with a round rod (resin). This prevents the chamfered part of the hole from damaging the seal lip. When drilling hydraulic pressure holes directly on the cylinder barrel, make a chamfer as shown in Figure (P3).
